Break-up albums generally suck. This is because they’re usually either too bogged down in embittered spite to be listenable, or so self consciously whimsical they make you feel nauseous. However, in the hands of Kevin Barnes’ of Montreal breaking up sounds like Berlin-era Bowie on a manic depressive sugar rush. Album of the year.Honrary Mentions
